Now faith is the assurance [the confirmation, the title deed] of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]” (Hebrews 11:1). Hope is a vital factor and a stepping stone in developing living faith. Hope tells us, our expectations in God are going to somehow work out- hopefully! On the contrary, faith knows and believes God is going to keep His word and work things out for us-no doubts! In Matthew 9, two blind men ask Jesus if He would have mercy on them and heal them. As Jesus often did, He answered their question with another question, asking, “Do you believe that I have the power to restore sight to your eyes?” The men replied, “Yes, we believe!” Then Jesus healed them, and spoke this very important truth statement, which is a vital ingredient for creating living faith, “You will have what your faith expects!” Often, when we begin to ask the Master for a touch and request His intervention in our various needs, we begin to anticipate He is going to help us, and how He may work that out. But when things don’t seem to be going the way we imagined, and situations don’t seem to change outwardly- our deceitful, negative, spiritual enemy, Satan, works hard to tear down our hope and faith with his weapons of fear and doubt. If we will go against what we are feeling and resist the devil- turning back towards our faithful Lord Jesus and His Word promises, our relationship and faith with Christ will continue to grow into a maturing, living, loving, vibrant, powerful spiritual oneness. By faith we will be able to expect great things from Him! True faith will be tested to see if it is authentic – not dependent on what we see or feel in the natural. God already knows what is in our hearts before the test; testing is not for God, but for us to be able to recognize what is really in our hearts. Life is a school, and if we find our hearts full of fear and doubts, instead of hope and faith, we don’t need to beat ourselves up, but we simply must turn back to the Lord Jesus, working out our hearts and unbelief with Him! The Holy Spirit is our teacher and desires (more than we do) to help us learn and grow in faith. God always honors living faith, because we are assured and believe He and His promises are a reality. True faith produces a “rest” for God’s people that cannot be taken away. Share His Word:
